Terms of service

These terms are between you — the organizer who creates an account — and Haystack Studios LLC. By signing in you agree to them.

The service

Hide & Sleuth lets you set up a hunt in which players (“sleuths”) find adults in disguise (“suspects”), prove each find with a pass phrase and a selfie, and see scores. We provide the software and hosting; you run the hunt.

Hunt Passes are one-time purchases for a single hunt, refundable on request until that hunt starts; contact support.

Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address. Keep that inbox secure — anyone who can read it can act as you. Organizers you add to your organization can see and run its hunts; add only people you trust.

Your responsibilities as organizer

• You are the data controller for your hunt. You decide whose names and photos go in, and you obtain the consents your organization and the law require — including a parent’s or guardian’s consent for minors, and each suspect’s agreement to be photographed.
• You are responsible for what your sleuths and suspects upload, and for removing anything that should not be there. The console lets you delete any find or photo at any time.
• You run the hunt safely: choose the location, set the boundaries, supervise the participants. We provide a game, not supervision.

Acceptable use

Don’t use the service to harass, to collect information about people without their consent, to upload unlawful or hateful content, or to interfere with other organizers’ hunts. We may suspend an account that does.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you and your participants upload. You give us the licence needed to store it and show it to the people your hunt makes it visible to — and nothing more. We never use your photos for anything else.

Retention and deletion

Selfies are deleted 30 days after a hunt ends or is revealed. You can export a hunt before then, delete a hunt at any time, and delete your account from the console or the app. Details are in the privacy policy.

Availability and warranty

The service is provided as-is. We work to keep it up during your hunt, but we make no uptime promise and are not liable for a hunt that a network outage, a phone, or a bug interrupted. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for an account that has never bought a pass is nothing.

Ending the agreement

You can end it by deleting your account. We can end it by giving you notice by email, or immediately if you break these terms; in either case you can export your hunts first.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, the effective date above moves. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance.
